How PASHA Capital and Birbank Invest are Expanding Global Market Access in Azerbaijan
Blog post from Alpaca
Azerbaijani investors have historically faced challenges in accessing global financial markets due to geographic limitations, underdeveloped capital markets, and complex onboarding processes. However, there has been significant growth in holdings of US equities, rising from $2 billion to $9 billion since 2020, indicating increased demand and access facilitated by digital solutions. To further alleviate investment barriers, Kapital Bank and PASHA Capital launched Birbank Invest, Azerbaijan's first bank-backed mobile investment app, enabling users to invest in over 12,000 US stocks and ETFs with features like fractional share trading and real-time portfolio tracking. This initiative, developed in collaboration with Alpaca's Broker API technology, aims to create a more accessible and intuitive investment experience for both novice and experienced investors, thus fostering a new investment culture in Azerbaijan. The app's rapid adoption, with over 90,000 downloads, reflects a strong demand for mobile-first investment tools in emerging markets, underscoring the potential for increased financial literacy and long-term financial stability in the region.
