Alpaca’s MCP Server for Trading API Adds Documentation Access
Blog post from Alpaca
Alpaca has added read-only API documentation access to its Trading MCP Server, enabling connected AI assistants to search and inspect supported Trading API, Market Data API, and Authentication operations without requiring developers to manually provide documentation in prompts. The tools can identify relevant endpoints, parameters, request and response formats, constraints, authentication requirements, and source links, helping users translate trading workflow ideas such as bracket orders, order replacements, and option-chain retrieval into implementation details while making no account or order changes. Available in Trading MCP Server version 2.2.1, the feature can be accessed by new users after connecting the server with paper-trading API keys or by existing V2 users after updating and restarting their MCP client; V1 users must migrate first. Built largely from Alpaca’s OpenAPI specifications, the documentation capability is intended to support MCP tool calls, direct API requests, and broader development workflows, while Alpaca notes that AI-generated information may be inaccurate and is educational only rather than investment advice.
