Alpaca Enters UK and EU Market through WealthKernel Acquisition
Blog post from Alpaca
Alpaca announced its intended acquisition of WealthKernel, a UK- and EU-focused wealthtech provider, to expand its regulated brokerage infrastructure into European markets, subject to approval from the UK Financial Conduct Authority and Spain’s Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores. WealthKernel’s licenses and products, including ISAs, SIPPs, and other tax-advantaged investment accounts, would complement Alpaca’s existing infrastructure for stocks, ETFs, options, cryptocurrency, fixed income, and extended-hours trading. The companies expect the combination to strengthen their technology, compliance, brokerage operations, and ability to help banks, brokers, and fintechs launch investment, custody, and wealth-management products across borders. Alpaca, which has raised more than $170 million and serves over 200 global partners, recently partnered with Kraken to provide commission-free US equities trading, while the combined organization plans to maintain hubs in North America, Europe, and Asia.
