Remote read replicas - the what, why, and how
Blog post from Aiven
PostgreSQL remote read replicas enable users to increase their data availability, as well as read and write performance. Aiven's new feature of remote read replica allows businesses to have a standalone read replica that will never be considered for promotion if the master fails, and it can be set up between homogenous or heterogeneous cloud providers. This functionality provides greater data availability and increased performance (throughput and latency) for reads and writes by offloading reads to the replica. The cost of using this feature is minimal compared to the benefits and peace of mind it brings.
