Building for the 80%: The New Developer Tier for Apache Kafka®

Aiven has introduced the Developer Tier for its Apache Kafka service, designed for users with serious workloads that aren't yet enterprise-scale, at a cost of $29 per month. This tier offers a 99% SLA, up to 1 MB/s throughput, and the ability to handle 20 topics with a maximum of 100 partitions, providing a middle-ground solution that balances reliability with affordability. It includes features like a Schema Registry, REST proxy, flexible data retention, Prometheus integration for metrics export, and compatibility with Kafka Connect for additional database connections. Users can deploy a new Developer Tier instance via various interfaces, and AI agents can automate setup and management tasks. The tier offers a seamless upgrade path to higher service tiers without requiring architectural changes, ensuring continuity in configuration and data.
