The Last Mile of Global Payments
Blog post from Airwallex
Airwallex has launched In-Person (POS) Payments as an extension of its global financial platform, targeting the fragmented systems that make international retail expansion costly and complex. The company argues that most POS acquiring infrastructure remains domestic-first, requiring businesses to use separate local acquirers, terminals, vendors, compliance processes, and reconciliation workflows in each market, while online and physical commerce often operate as disconnected channels. Airwallex POS is designed to unify online and in-store payments through a single platform, with APIs and SDKs for connections to OMS, ERP, and proprietary store systems, as well as support for local acquiring, regional payment methods, and compliance across markets. Transactions can settle into multi-currency accounts and connect with Airwallex’s FX, payouts, issuing, and billing products, aiming to give enterprise retailers more visibility and simplified reconciliation while allowing SaaS platforms to embed white-label in-store payment capabilities.
