The finance professional of 2027 doesn't exist yet
Blog post from Airwallex
Finance leaders increasingly prioritize AI integration, but a Forrester study commissioned by Airwallex finds that the chief obstacle is a shortage of professionals who combine finance expertise, technical AI skills, and operational knowledge, with 53% citing limited team experience as the main barrier to scaling AI. As universities and external hiring pipelines lag behind demand, the text argues that organizations should develop internal talent by identifying finance employees who show AI curiosity, pairing them with data specialists, and assigning them ownership of complete workflows such as forecasting, reconciliation, or month-end close. It also emphasizes that AI skills evolve rapidly, making continuous learning and an enterprise-wide talent strategy important, though only 15% of organizations have such a strategy. Connected finance platforms can further accelerate learning and implementation by consolidating payments, FX, accounts, and spend data, allowing teams to improve workflows without delays caused by fragmented systems and IT dependencies.
