Beyond the limits: ambition, performance, and partnership
Blog post from Airwallex
McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown attributes the team’s return from ninth place and record-low sponsorship revenue to back-to-back Constructors’ Championships to a deliberate sequence of organisational changes: repairing a blame-oriented culture, reverse-engineering the requirements for race wins, and aligning every department and partner around performance. Brown emphasized accountability that permits a single mistake but prevents repetition, arguing that operational improvements cannot succeed without trust. He traced McLaren’s need for a faster car through investment in R&D, technology, funding, sponsorship, and fan engagement, illustrating how underlying constraints may differ from the most visible problem. Across roughly 1,400 employees, including trackside and factory-based personnel, the team treats championship performance as a shared responsibility, while selecting partners based first on values and then on their ability to deepen fan relationships or improve operations; Airwallex supports the latter through global financial services. Despite 14 wins, 34 podiums, and two titles in 2025, McLaren has fallen to third this season, underscoring Brown’s view that sustained success depends on continual learning, adaptation, and improvement rather than a single winning formula.
