Introducing Aerospike agent skills: From AI-assisted coding to better database design

Aerospike has introduced open-source agent skills designed to give AI coding agents database-specific knowledge beyond basic API usage, covering client idioms, policies, collections, expressions, indexes, batch operations, and access-pattern-driven data modeling. The accompanying data modeling guide helps developers and agents translate application requirements into schema decisions before implementation, producing both a detailed schema guide that records rationale, assumptions, and alternatives and a concise schema summary for implementers. Aerospike argues that this approach can prevent costly design problems such as inefficient record granularity, excessive network operations, and hot keys that may emerge only at scale, and reports a 99.0% evaluation score for an agent using the skills versus 92.9% without them. The tools aim to shorten experimentation and prototyping while retaining developers’ control over architectural decisions, and are available under the Apache 2.0 license for use, adaptation, and contribution.
