Business Glossary: Give Your Data Estate a Shared Business Language
Blog post from Acceldata
ADOC 26.7.0 introduces Business Glossary, a governance capability designed to provide analysts and agentic AI systems with authoritative business context for data concepts that may differ across domains and source systems. It organizes definitions through Glossaries, Categories, and Terms, with each term supporting descriptions, synonyms, related terms, and associations with catalog assets and Data Products. New features include formal parent-child, related-term, and synonym relationships that resolve terminology variations without duplicating definitions, plus role-based steward workflows for creating, retiring, merging, and auditing terms while automatically reconciling associated assets. By connecting business definitions directly to Data Products, the feature enables consumers and AI agents to locate and evaluate trusted data by business meaning rather than table names or schemas. It is intended to support data stewards, governance leaders, product owners, analysts, and AI systems, and can be adopted by defining domain-specific glossaries, associating priority terms with assets, and assigning ongoing stewardship.
