It's been brought to my attention that some people think you shouldn't wave at the end of video calls. Those people are incorrect. Zapier was remote before it was cool/mandatory, and they've been using video calls for almost a decade, with everyone in the company agreeing on waving as a way to show appreciation for each other. Waving is not just acceptable but encouraged, as it provides a human touch to the end of video meetings, which can feel abrupt compared to in-person interactions. The author believes that waving is an important way to express gratitude and connection with others, even in a work context, and argues that it's corny and good, rather than rude or uncool. Google put the author in charge of Zoom etiquette, and they're sticking to their guns on this one.

By switching to a better hosting provider, optimizing images, deleting unnecessary plugins, adding a CDN, installing a caching plugin, and switching fonts, I significantly improved my site speed, resulting in increased bounce rate reduction and email signups. Now, with faster load times, I'm seeing an increase in sales as well. A slow website can have a massive impact on business performance, and addressing this issue is crucial for ranking higher on Google, driving more traffic, and providing a better user experience.

Google reviews are crucial for small businesses as they are the first thing potential customers notice online, and negative reviews can be devastating. A different approach to responding to negative reviews is suggested by Stewart Guss, a personal injury lawyer with a 4.8-star rating on Google, which involves admitting fault and apologizing to the customer in a personal phone call or email. This approach focuses on the relationship with the customer rather than the review itself, and aims to turn around the negative review by addressing the underlying issue and showing empathy towards the customer's concerns. It's essential to think about why customers are leaving negative reviews, which is often because they want attention and public consequences for a business that has failed them. The goal is not to get the review taken down but to learn from it and improve the service provided to future customers.

We built a chatbot for our direct-to-consumer eCommerce brand, YourLibaas, to improve customer service and reduce response times. The goal was to assist users during checkout and increase conversion rates. However, we initially failed miserably due to the scope being too narrow and not handling complex queries well. We learned that chatbots are best suited for repetitive queries and created a set of predefined queries and responses. After beta testing, we found that the initial results were disappointing, but we continued to improve the bot by monitoring failure causes and adding conversation flows on the go. We also made sure every time the bot failed, an available human representative was assigned. To increase chatbot usage, we created a tutorial video and introduced basic natural language processing abilities. The final result was that customers started rating bot interactions as good as human agents, with successful resolution for over 60% of queries. The journey is ongoing, but we've learned valuable lessons about the importance of ongoing improvement and the role of chatbots in supporting customer support teams.

As an entrepreneur, understanding one's own behaviors is crucial to increasing productivity. The Fogg Behavior Model, researched by Stanford behavior scientist BJ Fogg, provides a simple yet effective framework for analyzing behavior change. The model consists of four elements: Motivation (M), Ability (A), Prompt (P), and Behavior (B). By visualizing these elements on a graph, one can better understand the interplay between motivation, ability, and prompt in driving behavior. To apply this model, individuals can create their own rating system for motivations and abilities, and calculate a prompt score based on multiplying these values together. The strength of the prompt required depends on the resulting score, with lower scores indicating stronger prompts. By setting clear and effective prompts, entrepreneurs and small business owners can overcome challenges and achieve their goals.
