Gartner has named SingleStore a Visionary in the Magic Quadrant for Data Warehouse and Management Solutions for Analytics! This marks our debut in Gartner’s report for data warehouse solutions and our second showing on a Gartner Magic Quadrant report in the last six months. The report compares top Data Warehouse solutions, as well as highlights key strengths that distinguish SingleStore from legacy vendors. SingleStore is positioned to handle transactional and analytical use cases with low-latency requirements through its integrated version of Apache Spark. It also offers flexibility in technology and can address operational analytics use cases in the data warehouse market, which sets it apart from legacy vendors. Gartner's recognition highlights SingleStore's ability to consolidate mixed workloads into a single system, providing a robust database platform for real-time use cases.

We spent last week in New York at Spark Summit East talking with visionaries and data architects using Apache Spark. At the show we introduced PowerStream, an IoT showcase application providing actionable insights from real-time data from 2 million sensors across global wind farms. We also partnered with Zoomdata to demo TaxiStats, a real-time dashboard application simulating pickup and drop-off data from New York City taxis streamed into SingleStore in real time. The event was part of Spark Summit, which assembles top engineers, scientists, analysts, and executives from around the globe, and we look forward to the upcoming West Summit in San Francisco.

Today, SingleStore is releasing its latest version of the SingleStoreDB Self-Managed 5 Beta, marking a significant milestone in the company's 5-year journey. This release aligns with the company's focus on building an enterprise-ready distributed database that delivers real-time analytics to a broad market while maintaining maturity and functionality. With this beta release, SingleStore aims to improve its support for SQL operations, query optimization, columnstore query execution, detailed table and query statistics, and build modern database applications with high-volume transactional workloads, data warehouses with live data, and real-time data pipelines using Apache Kafka and Spark. The company also emphasizes the security, robustness, and performance of this release, inviting users to share their feedback to help improve future versions.

PowerStream is an IoT simulation platform that utilizes real-time data from 2 million sensors on global wind farms to predict and visualize the health of individual turbines and aggregate behavior of wind farms. The platform, powered by SingleStore, uses a machine learning algorithm to analyze temperature and vibration data points from these sensors and displays green or red states indicating normal or out-of-normal operating bounds. PowerStream's architecture includes simulated data producers, Apache Kafka, and a Javascript-based User Interface, which queries the SingleStore database to display states in real-time, depending on the map geography and zoom level selected by the user. The platform also incorporates geospatial functionality using SingleStore Geospatial capabilities, enabling users to view status of specific turbines or wind farms as they zoom in or out.

We live in a burgeoning on-demand economy. Services have transcended the physical establishments of restaurants, banks, and shopping malls with universal facilitation by mobile applications. Hordes and hordes of application choices. And we depend on them daily. It begins with the drop of a pin. Uber arrives at your door several minutes later and off you go to the gym. Now it’s Fitbit’s turn to perform, as it tracks heart rate and chimes gently to let you know workout goals for the day have been completed. Another Uber ride later, you’re at the office, where packages are shipped with the help of Shyp, friends are reimbursed for weekend expenses with Venmo, and the witty line from your boss during this morning’s meeting has made its way into the Twittersphere. And those are only a few examples in a broad sea of apps. The global community embraces apps for everything from gaming and shopping to banking and transportation. Today's mantra is "There's an app for that", highlighting how seamlessly these services have become integrated into our daily lives, with numerous applications offering solutions to various aspects of our existence.
