December 2022 Summaries

Earlier this year, Replit introduced Cycles, a virtual token that can be earned or purchased to enhance compute power and functionality for Repls, and hundreds of thousands of transactions have since been made. The platform is now evolving to allow community members to earn Cycles through bounties, and improvements are being made to the transaction history page to provide clearer insights into how Cycles are spent or earned. The project aims to make the transaction page extensible for future products, surface unique transaction IDs, and categorize transactions for better understanding. The engineering challenge involved simplifying the existing Google Cloud Spanner transactions table to retrieve detailed information efficiently using a new metadata column. As a result, users can now more easily access contextual information about their Cycles transactions. The updated transaction history will be gradually rolled out, with plans for additional features such as linking power-ups to specific Repls and filtering transactions by category or date. This project was an enriching experience for the intern involved, who expressed gratitude for the opportunity and excitement for future developments.

We're thrilled to announce the launch of Custom Themes on Replit, a feature allowing users to create and share their own custom themes for styling the app's colors, syntax highlighting, and more. To get started, users can visit the themes section under their account page, select a color scheme, and configure global tokens and syntax highlighting settings. The new feature includes auto-saving of updates, live previewing, and the ability to browse and install existing themes from the Community. With Custom Themes, users can make Replit truly theirs and showcase their creativity.

Magic Prints is an e-commerce store that allows customers to generate AI artwork and add it to accessories that can be shipped anywhere in the US. The company was founded by Jack, a marketing manager who wanted to leverage AI-generated art for his entrepreneurial ventures. He posted a bounty on Replit's Bounties platform, which connects entrepreneurs with top developers, hoping to find someone who could bring his idea to life. Ray, a prolific Replit community member, matched with Jack and brought his vision to reality, developing the Stable Diffusion models, designing the website, and hosting it on Replit. The project was completed in just a few weeks, and Jack was able to easily access and run the code through a private link on Replit, without needing technical setup or configuration. The successful collaboration has left Jack eager to work with Ray again and has sparked interest in Magic Prints, which is now inviting users to join their waitlist for updates on its launch.
