Microsoft is ending support for Microsoft AppFabric 1.1 for Windows Server on April 2, 2016, but there's a better alternative: Redis. Redis is a fast-growing NoSQL datastore that runs in-memory and delivers sub-millisecond latencies, making it ideal for high-speed transactions and real-time analytics. It offers performance, scalability, portability, built-in monitoring, and ease of use, making it a more suitable choice than AppFabric. Both Redis Cloud and Redis Enterprise Cluster (RLEC) provide seamless scalability, automated deployment, and management, with RLEC being free to download and Redis Cloud having a free tier, allowing developers to easily migrate from AppFabric.

The Redis security vulnerability was discovered by Ben Murphy, who also provided a patch to address the issue. The exploit requires significant skill and is just one step in a potential attack chain, making it relatively low-risk for users. To protect against this vulnerability, users should upgrade their Redis servers to the latest versions or apply hot patches using the same exploit. Additionally, renaming certain commands can provide an extra layer of security.

A new NoSQL benchmark has been released by Avalon Consulting, LLC, which shows Redis outperforming its competitors by a significant margin in terms of throughput and latency. The benchmark report is freely available online, and the results demonstrate Redis's superiority in a real-world application scenario. However, it's essential to acknowledge that benchmarking can be challenging due to the diverse capabilities of NoSQL databases and the need for applicative benchmarks that test optimized applications independently for each database. A recent example of an effective benchmark is Emind's use case, where a mock application was built in Go to simulate a voting platform, and Avalon Consulting executed the benchmark to provide impartial results.
