“Internally Deployed Users” (IDUs) are proposed as employees with explicit responsibility for regularly using their company’s product to accomplish meaningful tasks, identify flaws, and ensure feedback reaches people able to fix them. The concept builds on dogfooding but emphasizes sustained accountability and use of the exact same public product builds that customers receive, rather than loosely encouraging employees to try internal versions. The argument draws on successful indie hackers and early-stage startups, whose founders often rely directly on the software they build, and cites quality problems with Claude Code as an example of how conventional dogfooding can fail when staff use different builds from customers. By giving the practice a distinct name, the proposal aims to encourage leadership and boards to measure whether organizations have enough internal user capacity to expose and address product shortcomings.
