When we flew out to the AI Engineering Summit in New York I knew the 'vibe coding' stickers would be a hit. Something about the phrase captures a moment in time. As conversations unfolded it is clear ‘Vibe Coding’ is more than a meme—it’s a symbol of optimism and the sign of a coming wave. It all started with a Tweet by Andrej Karpathy, a well known AI expert, that has since snowballed with others like Rick Rubin as he became the face of the meme. Vibe coding represents a future where developers no longer waste hours on painful type errors or missing semi-colons, they instead spend time focusing on the creative essence of software development: imagining and exploring what to build next. The use of tools that don’t just take a prompt to produce semi-working code, but iterate, lint, and run tests autonomously, is at the heart of vibe coding. For software engineers, this represents an unleashed wave of creativity where their superpower can manifest ideas into reality without the tedious manual work, allowing them to focus on exploring what to build next.

The Gitpod SDK is a set of infrastructure building blocks that enables the creation of scalable software engineering (SWE) agents at scale. Built on top of Gitpod's CDE platform, it provides a bridge between today's world of hands-on-keyboard development and a future of end-to-end autonomous agents that can complete features and complex bugs. The SDK gives users access to environments, automations, runners, and events, allowing them to orchestrate and develop enterprise-ready SWE agents. It is designed to bypass the complexities of building AI-agent infrastructure yourself, focusing on productivity without compromising security. With the Gitpod SDK, users can build various types of agents, such as refactoring, bugs and backlog work, and code reviews, using a secure and compartmentalized environment within their existing network perimeter or enterprise VPC. The SDK is available in Python, TypeScript, and Go, and currently only supports Gitpod Flex users.
