Developing cloud applications can be cumbersome due to their many moving parts. LocalStack simplifies this process by providing a fully functional local AWS cloud stack that gives immediate feedback on changes without waiting for cloud resources, saving time and resources. Gitpod offers automated, ephemeral workspaces with all required tools and packages installed, allowing developers to work in multiple environments parallelly. Combining the development environment of Gitpod with the cloud sandbox provided by LocalStack minimizes friction when developing cloud applications and getting up and running within a few minutes. This setup enables developers to create reproducible environments, collaborate effectively, transition seamlessly into CI/CD pipelines, and save costs by avoiding real cloud resource usage.

Gitpod's community has grown from 500 to 5000 in just under a year. The company faced challenges such as scattered communities and lack of timely responses to queries. To address these issues, the first dedicated community hire streamlined the process by creating an official home for the community on Discord and introducing internal tools like Front and Community Captains. AXON was hired in January 2022, further expanding the community team. The top three learnings from scaling the Gitpod community are: intentionality in building a positive culture, making being part of a community an experience, and recognizing superfans who contribute significantly to the community's growth. Looking ahead, Gitpod plans to empower its community to lead initiatives such as events, conferences, and local communities worldwide.

The DevX Community is a curated platform for DevX leaders who aim to improve the developer experience. It was founded by eight DevX practitioners from various companies and focuses on connecting professionals in this field, sharing learnings, and exchanging insights. This initiative complements other activities and formats such as DevX Conf, an annual virtual conference, and DevX Pod, a podcast featuring interviews with DevX experts. The community's goal is to enhance the developer experience for all software developers worldwide.
