Gitpod introduces a new method for installing VS Code extensions directly from the open-source vendor-neutral marketplace Open VSX. Since its announcement, Open VSX has seen rapid adoption with over 200 developers publishing their own extensions. The integration of Open VSX in Gitpod allows users to search and install extensions within their workspace. Users can choose to install extensions for a project's dev environment or for their personal user profile. If an extension is not available on Open VSX, users can request the developer to publish it, download the .vsix file and drag-and-drop it into the IDE, or create a pull request at GitHub.
