The Neo4j team has released the final milestone build of Neo4j 1.4, marking a festive celebration in Sweden. This release includes refined auto indexing, new features to the REST API, enhanced Cypher query language features, and several performance improvements. The auto indexing framework now provides a polished user experience with improved management of indexes on behalf of users. The Cypher language has evolved to support powerful graph-matching queries, while the REST API now supports paging traversal results for large result sets. Performance enhancements include a 25% smaller memory footprint, faster typed relationships and small transactions, as well as improved traversing performance.

We're releasing a new major version of Neo4j, "Kiruna Stol", with several exciting features including Cypher, a humane query language designed for both developers and operations professionals to make ad-hoc queries on the graph database. The new REST API supports batching of REST operations, reducing network and transactional overheads. Additionally, we've made improvements to documentation, tutorials, performance, memory usage, and bug fixes in this iteration of Neo4j.
