Databases are evolving to be more closely tied to applications, moving away from being the foundation of integration. Neo4j on the Neo FreeRunner` Some time ago, I tested the Neo4j graph database as a backend to Qi4j on the Neo FreeRunner. Installing the 2008.09 distribution and FDOM provided more goodies on the system. In order to run Neo4j and Java code, a JVM was required, with classpath, jamvm, and GTK-SWT bindings being installed for possible GUI use. The Neo4j database could be deployed onto the device via SCP and started successfully, even working with Qi4j although very slow. This setup opens up small Linux devices for Neo4j graph databases.
