The latest version of GrowthBook introduces numerous enhancements and features designed to improve user experience and functionality. The update also simplifies percentile capping, known as Winsorization, with the introduction of percentile support, and integrates OpenTelemetry for better observability of self-hosted instances. Feature flagging and experimentation are crucial in software development for releasing new code confidently and optimizing performance through data-driven decisions, but building a robust metrics library is a prerequisite for making experimentation a core activity. GrowthBook's new Automatic Metric Generation feature simplifies this process by automatically converting tracked events from Segment, Rudderstack, and Google Analytics 4 into metrics, using a bring-your-own-warehouse model that connects directly to a data warehouse via read-only queries. This approach reduces storage costs and simplifies event tracking, as it eliminates the need to store tracked events in multiple locations. GrowthBook's ability to identify unique events and create metrics such as count and binomial metrics allows organizations to preview and edit the underlying SQL or create more complex metrics themselves. Currently, this feature is limited to data sources connected to Segment, Rudderstack, and GA4, and only identifies events tracked in the last seven days, but there are plans to expand automatic metrics to other event trackers and data sources.
