September 2020 Summaries

In September, updates were made to Dedicated CPU and Standard Droplet plans. Dedicated CPU Droplet plans now offer more SSD size options, while Standard Droplet plans have been renamed to Basic Droplet plans with new plan s-8vcpu-16gb added. The deprecated plans are still available via API or doctl. Fedora 30 has reached its end of life and will be removed from the platform on October 8, 2020. Creation of new Spaces in SGP1 is temporarily disabled until 2021 due to capacity updates. Several new preconfigured 1-Click Apps have been launched in the DigitalOcean Marketplace.

Hacktoberfest is a month-long celebration of open source software created by DigitalOcean to honor and uplift the community that contributes significantly to their projects. This year, they anticipate hundreds of thousands of developers participating in Hacktoberfest from 150 countries. Due to the global pandemic, all events are being held online, with a focus on reducing environmental impact by planting trees instead of giving out T-shirts as rewards. The event is also partnering with Intel, DEV, Vonage, JetBrains, Circle CI, and GitHub to provide resources and support for participants. Hacktoberfest aims to foster collaboration and growth within the open source community while promoting positive change in the world.
