DigitalOcean has introduced new features to simplify the use of Kubernetes, including a managed service called DigitalOcean Container Registry and more than fifteen Kubernetes 1-Click Apps. The container registry allows users to store private container images securely and conveniently, while the 1-Click Apps enable easy deployment of complex software packages to clusters. These enhancements aim to make development and operations with Kubernetes smoother for users.

DigitalOcean has introduced a self-guided course called "Kubernetes for Full-Stack Developers" to help developers learn about Kubernetes container clusters and running containerized applications on them. The course covers core concepts, modernizing applications to work with containers, containerizing applications, deploying applications to Kubernetes, and managing cluster operations. DigitalOcean's commitment to education through its Community platform and technical tutorials supports both customers and the broader developer community interested in learning about Kubernetes.

Hacktoberfest 2019 was the most successful yet with over 483,000 pull requests from participants in 154,767 repositories across 142 countries. The top language used during the event was JavaScript, and the MIT license was the most commonly used. There were also a record number of in-person events held around the world, with 673 gatherings taking place in 393 cities across 73 countries. DigitalOcean is planning to invest more in community support and rewarding maintainers and event organizers for Hacktoberfest 2020.

Microweber is an open-source, drag-and-drop website builder designed for ecommerce entrepreneurs. It addresses the limitations of existing website builders and CMS platforms by offering a simple interface with drag-and-drop functionality, live editing capabilities, and built-in online store features. The platform supports multiple payment methods, order management, automated emails, shipping options, custom product fields, social network linking, currency options, and setting taxes as a merchant. Microweber is self-hosted and offers free access to all templates for DigitalOcean customers.

DigitalOcean has partnered with Major League Hacking (MLH) to create a two-hour workshop called "App Deployment & Security with DigitalOcean." The aim of the partnership is to promote technical literacy and empower developers to build software that can change the world. The workshop covers fundamental DevOps principles, including creating, monitoring, and deploying highly available servers to host hackathon apps. Participants will collaborate and deploy a sample application that helps find beach cleanup days in a given area. Students new to DigitalOcean will receive a $50 credit to keep their app running or build something new on their own Droplets.
