The company has opened its newest datacenter in New York City, located at 111 8th Avenue, which is also known as the Googleplex East building. This new facility significantly increases East Coast capacity and brings DigitalOcean closer to launching private networking for its customers. The datacenter features NY2 Droplets that are available for deployment, and the company continues to invest in its infrastructure with additional capacity and new data centers around the world, including a significant addition in Europe. As a result, $5 per month, AMS1 512MB droplets are now available for all customers. The company plans to continue adding more capacity and updates on its datacenter locations.

The DigitalOcean team has taken steps to address a potential issue with SSH host keys on Ubuntu-based systems created from snapshots. Due to the snapshot and creation process, some host keys may have been duplicated, leading to security concerns. To mitigate this, DigitalOcean's system now removes host keys on Droplets created from snapshots at the first boot, provided there is high confidence that host-keys will be regenerated on boot. Users of existing Ubuntu-based Droplets and snapshots are advised to regenerate their SSH host keys by removing potentially duplicated host keys and generating new ones using a dpkg-reconfigure script or manual key generation commands if necessary.
