December 2023 Summaries

The Dagger CUE SDK is being discontinued by the Dagger team due to a decline in usage since the release of multi-language support. The decision was made after a year of maintaining the SDK and collecting feedback from the community, which showed that there simply wasn't enough interest in continuing to support the original CUE configuration syntax. As of December 14th, 2023, users will no longer receive updates or support for the CUE SDK, but existing pipelines written with the CUE SDK will still run on Dagger Engine 0.2. The team is focusing their resources elsewhere and encourages users to explore other languages and SDKs offered by Dagger.

There was something magical about seeing humans in person, according to the author, who had not attended an in-person event since 2020. The KubeCon NA 2023 conference kicked off with presentations by Jeremy Adams and Márk Sági-Kazár on how to future-proof a platform's CI/CD pipeline without developers noticing, followed by Kyle Penfound's talk "Run Your CI in Code, Not YAML". The community's response to Dagger was overwhelmingly positive, with the booth being busy throughout the event and great conversations with people who were in the thick of their CI/CD transformations. Impromptu module hacking sessions were also held at nearby lunch tables. Kelsey Hightower gave the team some awesome feedback after a demo of Dagger. The conference ended with a long list of follow-up conversations and the welcoming of many new Daggernauts into the Discord community.
