AG-UI (Agent-User Interaction Protocol) 1.0 is an open, framework- and transport-agnostic standard for connecting AI agents to user-facing applications through a consistent stream of lifecycle events. It addresses the limitations of traditional request-response interfaces and fragmented agent-framework streaming formats by allowing frontends to handle token streaming, tool calls, shared-state changes, subagents, multimodal outputs, and user approval requests in a standardized way. An agent endpoint converts native framework output into AG-UI events, while a client SDK validates and delivers those events to the interface, enabling responsive experiences such as displaying tool activity while an agent works. The stable 1.0 release includes a JSON Schema, generated TypeScript, Python, and .NET SDKs, and additions including metadata, subagent support, and multimodal tool results. Supported across major cloud providers and agent frameworks, AG-UI aims to let developers retain the same interface while changing backend frameworks and deploy one agent across web, mobile, terminals, and chat platforms. CopilotKit also presents Automatic Learning as a complementary system that derives reviewable reusable agent skills from AG-UI interaction data.

CopilotKit announced OpenDots, an open-source, self-hosted alternative to OpenAI’s always-on AI “dots,” designed to let users build customizable AI coworkers that can continue tasks after chats end. Built on CopilotKit, AG-UI, and CopilotKit Intelligence, OpenDots supports OpenAI-compatible models and agents, and provides each AI coworker with configurable roles, instructions, tools, optional computer access, browser, file, and terminal capabilities. It includes collaborative Spaces and Pages, real-time voice interaction, Slack integration, approval workflows, recurring task scheduling, and Automatic Learning, which converts reviewed conversations into reusable skills. The project is available for web and mobile use, is positioned as an early single-owner template for teams to adapt to their own infrastructure and workflows, and invites community contributions through GitHub.
