A recent survey found that security is the top consideration for developers selecting Cloud Development Environments (CDEs). Despite concerns about a lack of security features, CDEs can actually enhance organizational and developer-level security. By eliminating the ability to download source code, copy files into separate environments, or download content, CDEs reduce the risk of data breaches. They also help developers avoid managing security policies in their own environments, which can be time-consuming and confusing. Additionally, CDEs provide more visibility into the development environment, making it easier to enforce encryption and access logs for auditing purposes. Overall, CDEs offer significant benefits in terms of productivity, cost, developer experience, and security.
