Dave's Killer Bread Foundation aims to promote Second Chance Employment by working directly with employers to build leadership buy-in and adopt this practice, sharing recommendations and best practices along the way. The foundation was established five years ago in response to a challenge of supporting Dave's Killer Bread's workforce, where one in three partners has a criminal background. Today we’re releasing data from the Checkr platform that sheds light on current risk and the role both recent and past behavior play in determining it.` The rate of actionable criminal information appearing on a background report drops significantly over time, with 83.1% of individuals who had a conviction in 2010 not having another conviction in the following year, and only 1.5% having another conviction seven years later. Within the first year, there's a dramatic drop-off, with only 16.9% of people having another criminal conviction the following year, decreasing by an average of 31.2% each subsequent year. This finding suggests that those who find jobs after committing a crime reduce their probability of re-offense. The data collected from over 70k candidates across the US provides valuable insights for companies to re-evaluate trust and safety processes, shifting focus from past crimes to current behavior.
