Basis Theory introduced several updates aimed at giving developers more control over sensitive data collection, token management, and proxy workflows. New card Elements allow card number, expiration date, and CVC to be captured separately, enabling more customizable payment experiences, while expanded token aliasing uses Expressions to preserve identifier formats or lengths and incorporate selected token data, static characters, or non-sensitive properties. Pre-defined Proxies can now process or modify request and response data through Expressions and Reactors before information reaches internal systems or third parties, and token deduplication prevents multiple tokens with identical underlying data from being created within a tenant or during tokenization. Additional releases include fingerprinting and masking through Expressions, Go SDK tokenization support, token data updates across types and SDKs, improved token search and creation performance, configurable Element autocomplete, clearer Reactor error reporting, web portal accessibility improvements, and updated developer documentation.

Basis Theory Elements is a tokenization tool designed to let developers collect sensitive information, such as payment card details, bank accounts, Social Security numbers, and email addresses, without allowing that data to pass through their frontend or backend systems. Text Elements offer flexible field-level or combined tokenization, while customizable Card Elements support collection of card numbers, expiration dates, and verification codes with features such as card-brand icons and variable CVC lengths. Developers retain control over form styling and behavior through CSS customization and events for focus, changes, validation, and errors, helping preserve a consistent user experience. Submitted information is sent directly to Basis Theory’s dedicated PCI-compliant and SOC 2-certified environment, where it is encrypted and replaced with token identifiers that can be used in later operations. Additional services, including Proxy and Reactors, enable organizations to use tokenized data for activities such as KYC checks, billing, payment processing, analysis, and third-party sharing while reducing security exposure and compliance scope.
