The Apollo team has launched a new documentation site built with Gatsby, a static site generator. The old Hexo-based site was difficult to maintain and evolve over time, so the team decided to migrate to React and share UI across all Apollo sites. Gatsby themes were used to compose UI, configuration, and functionality across multiple sites, allowing for easy sharing of versioning logic and construction of common layout components. The new site focuses on discoverability, with a cleaner layout and navigation structure that makes content more accessible. Search functionality has also been improved, and the team plans to refactor their information architecture in the future to help developers find what they're looking for faster. MDX will be supported, enabling the integration of interactive elements into documentation.
