Companies spend six figures on AI—a third of employees don't know it costs anything at all
Blog post from Zapier
A survey conducted by Centiment on behalf of Zapier reveals a significant mismatch in perceptions of AI spending value between company executives and lower-level employees. While 91% of managers and above assert that their AI tools justify their costs, many individual contributors remain unaware of these expenses. Despite financial concerns in some companies, such as Microsoft's cancellation of Claude Code licenses, AI spending continues to rise, with 86% of respondents planning to increase investment in the coming year. However, challenges like security, compliance, and data integration prevent organizations from fully realizing AI's potential. The study indicates that while leadership is confident in AI's return on investment, this confidence does not necessarily translate into effective execution or understanding at all organizational levels. As companies plan to invest more in training and infrastructure rather than just expanding licenses, tools like Zapier are suggested to enhance AI governance and integration, ensuring that AI investments provide tangible value across the entire organization.
