YugabyteDB 2.8, the latest stable release of the open-source database, offers significant enhancements to its Distributed SQL side and self-managed DBaaS offering, Yugabyte Platform. The platform now includes a secure API for automating operations, allowing users to integrate it with their software development life cycle. This update also introduces new features such as alerts and notifications in Yugabyte Platform, support for root CA certificate rotation, seamless upgrades without stopping the database, and a new YSQL built-in function called yb_hash_code. Additionally, YugabyteDB 2.8 includes improvements to PITR (Point-in-Time Recovery), RPC compression, chunking/throttling options for secondary index backfill operations, and support for smart client drivers for SQL. The latest release is now available in General Availability (GA) and invites users to try it out with various resources and communities available.
