Growing up as the son of Vietnamese immigrants in southwest Washington, the author found a passion for creativity and technology despite an analog upbringing and a cramped living space. Introduced to computers by his father, who invested in early technology like the Commodore 64 and Apple II, his interest in digital creation was ignited further by his uncle's gift of Macromedia software. Despite a disinterest in traditional schooling, particularly in subjects like history and mathematics, he excelled in creative disciplines such as art and literature. This creative inclination led him to college, where an introductory Flash course transformed his perception of programming from an intimidating mathematical challenge to a tool for creative expression. His college years were marked by a fusion of art and technology, culminating in an interactive sculpture project that explored online identity representation, particularly through platforms like Myspace. This journey reflects a lifelong commitment to learning through experimentation and blending artistic vision with technological skills.
