Autism Hackathon Recap: Building For A Future of Clear Communication`
A recent hackathon organized by Autism Speaks aimed to empower autistic individuals with technology to improve their communication skills. The event brought together developers, designers, and novice hackers to build tools that would help autistic people interact with others effectively. One winning project, VIP Virtualizes Real-Life Communications, used XBox Kinect to measure body language and eye contact, while another, MyMonitorGlasswear, monitored social interactions via Google Glass. Additionally, MindFlower created a marketplace for hiring adults on the autism spectrum, and Audeo provided visual cues to help users understand emotional context within conversations. The hackathon's goal is to develop an all-in-one app that can be used by autistic individuals to navigate any situation, with Autism Speaks aiming to bundle each team's creation into this platform.
