Sketchfab Utilizes Streamâs Feed Technology to Increase Performance and Reliability
Blog post from Stream
Sketchfab, a platform for 3D artists and various creatives, faced challenges with their custom-built feed system, which relied on their own infrastructure such as PostgreSQL and Redis cache, leading to scalability issues as user activity increased. In search of a more efficient and scalable solution, Sketchfab opted for Stream, an API known for its ease of use, aggregation, and notification capabilities, after considering alternatives like building an in-house solution on top of Stream's open-source framework. The decision was influenced by Stream's reliable performance, cost-effectiveness, and the fact that it eliminated the need for Sketchfab to maintain complex infrastructure such as their own Cassandra cluster and real-time API workers. As a result, both Sketchfab's news and notification feeds are now powered by Stream, benefiting from high performance due to Stream's proximity to Sketchfab's data center in EU-west and the optimized feed storage infrastructure based on Go.
