Strapi, an open-source platform designed to expedite back-end development, has undergone significant updates in its v2 branch based on user feedback and behavior analysis. Initially, Strapi consisted of an open-source component and a SaaS, with the latter intended as a monetization strategy, which proved ineffective. Consequently, the team decided to integrate these components and host them on users' machines while developing a plugin ecosystem to extend functionality. These plugins will be available in a centralized marketplace, allowing developers to share, sell, and monetize their creations, with some being free and installed by default. The admin panel will remain open-source, enabling users to connect plugins and access essential features locally. Strapi emphasizes community-driven development and transparency, inviting feedback to refine the platform into a balanced CMS, framework, and automation tool. As co-founder Loïc departs, the team remains committed to evolving Strapi with the community's involvement.
