PrestoSQL becomes Trino

PrestoSQL has been rebranded as Trino following a decision by its original creators, who left Facebook in late 2018 to establish a new repository, while the original PrestoDB continued under Facebook's development. This name change was necessary due to trademark ownership by the Linux Foundation after Facebook transferred ownership of PrestoDB to them, leading to the creation of the Presto Foundation to manage different distributions, similar to the Linux model. Starburst, a significant contributor to the Presto ecosystem and a member of the Presto Foundation's governing board, is committed to harmonizing codebases and developing enterprise-grade distributions from Trino, ensuring that users of Starburst for Presto experience no disruption.
