Q&A with iFood’s Thales Biancala on Delivering Restaurants One Hundred Million Events a Month

iFood, the leading food delivery app in Latin America, handles over 20 million orders monthly from more than 100,000 merchants and generates around 100 million events monthly, necessitating a robust backend to manage this vast amount of data. In a Q&A with software engineer Thales Biancalana, it was revealed that iFood adopted ScyllaDB to accommodate its rapid growth, which saw a jump from 1 million to 20 million monthly orders in just over two years, and the number of merchants doubling in less than a year. Despite the platform's capacity to handle over 10 times its maximum peak load, iFood continuously experiments with new technologies to manage its escalating operational demands. Thales, who is set to speak at the upcoming ScyllaDB Summit 2019, also shared his personal interests, including a passion for manga and anime.
