Who cares about Nemo, let's find some Sexy Shrimp!

Mat Winegarden shares his experience of maintaining a saltwater reef tank and his journey into a unique project involving the detection of "Sexy Shrimp" using Roboflow, a computer vision platform. Despite advice to avoid small tanks, Winegarden opted for a BioCube "Nano" tank, which required careful setup and maintenance. His interest in breeding clownfish and the elusive Sexy Shrimp led him to use Roboflow for object detection, where he uploaded and annotated images to train a model capable of identifying the shrimp's sex. Through various preprocessing and augmentation techniques, Winegarden and his coworker Jacob sought to enhance the model's precision, ultimately deploying it with a webcam to detect shrimp in real-time. Although the model successfully identified shrimp, it also misidentified other objects, prompting Winegarden to consider expanding the dataset for improved accuracy.
