It has been six months since PlanetScale released its product in beta, built on top of the open-source database Vitess, with a mission to bring powerful and easy-to-use databases to everyone. The platform aims to provide developers with a productive experience without worrying about scale, and has already gained traction from major sites and large brands working with it to solve their database challenges. The community response has been overwhelmingly positive, leading to $50M in Series C funding led by Kleiner Perkins, with existing investors and new investments from prominent figures in the industry. The PlanetScale team is proud of their progress so far, having only exposed a small portion of Vitess' power and functionality, and looks forward to continuing their mission to build a better database future for all builders, optimists, creators, and scalers.
