Summary

In an effort to address requests for handling and escalating phone calls alongside alerts from monitoring systems, a proof of concept script utilizing Google App Engine and Twilio was developed to record voicemails and treat them as regular PagerDuty alerts. This solution, which was created during a PagerDuty hackday, enables users to receive SMS notifications containing a shortened URL to the voicemail, which can be accessed and managed from smartphones. Although this method is not officially part of the development roadmap, it offers a workaround for technically inclined users who have Twilio and Google App Engine accounts, allowing them to integrate phone call alerts into their existing workflows. The code for this project is available on GitHub for those comfortable deploying it.
