Intern Spotlight: Yiyun Liang

Yiyun, a Computer Science student from the University of Waterloo, reflects on her four-month internship as a Software Engineer intern at PagerDuty, highlighting her experiences and learnings. She participated in maintaining and developing core libraries and services, contributing to a project from design to deployment, and taking significant responsibility during "Failure Friday" sessions that test service reliability through simulated failures. Yiyun also joined team-building activities, such as a two-day offsite that involved team retrospectives and goal-setting, and gained confidence by participating in on-call rotations, where she handled real-time service incidents. Her internship at PagerDuty, characterized by a supportive environment and opportunities to contribute to production code, taught her resilience and adaptability in the face of unexpected challenges, leading her to appreciate the company's robust incident response practices and its rapid growth trajectory.
