From PHP and MySQL to Hasura
Blog post from Nhost
Nhost's inception is rooted in the evolution of web development, starting from the era of PHP and MySQL to the rise of Single Page Applications (SPAs) and the exploration of frameworks like MeteorJS and Firebase. Dissatisfied with NoSQL databases, the founder embraced a SQL-based approach, using React & Redux with a REST API. A pivotal moment occurred in 2018 upon discovering Hasura in DigitalOcean's marketplace, which offered a combination of PostgreSQL, GraphQL, and real-time access control. This discovery led to the development of Hasura Backend Plus (HBP) to address Hasura's lack of built-in authentication and storage solutions. Nhost emerged as a platform to facilitate rapid deployment of Hasura and HBP, providing developers with a modern web stack that includes PostgreSQL, GraphQL, real-time subscriptions, authentication, and storage, enhancing the ease of launching new web projects.
