Leverage Our Lambda Runtime Logs API Integration for Better Serverless Observability
Blog post from New Relic
Engineers working with serverless cloud-based architectures face significant challenges in debugging and observability, despite serverless solutions reducing operational issues, with Amazon Web Services (AWS) addressing these concerns through the Lambda Runtime Logs API, which allows extensions to access and manage logging data from AWS Lambdas. The API supports function, platform, and extension logs, and New Relic has updated its monitoring toolkit to integrate with this API, enhancing its capability to monitor serverless applications through a cleaner installation path and reduced latency in data reporting. However, users must note that the integration currently only sends data relevant to New Relic’s observability dashboards and requires additional configuration to prevent logs from defaulting to CloudWatch, necessitating the removal of certain IAM permissions. New Relic’s collaboration with AWS, which includes adopting the OpenTelemetry standard and the Extensions API, continues to evolve, offering deeper insights into AWS Lambda-based applications.
