Beyond Monolithic AI: The Case for an Expert Orchestration Architecture

In the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence, the current focus on developing highly powerful monolithic large language models (LLMs) is being challenged due to their limitations in factuality, domain expertise, bias, and hallucinations. This approach has led to a market dominated by a few large corporations with high barriers to entry for specialized models. An alternative framework, "Expert Orchestration," proposes using thousands of specialized models selected intelligently based on specific query requirements, mimicking human expertise navigation. This method involves "Judges" and "Routers" to evaluate and direct queries to the most appropriate models, offering superior performance, transparency, user empowerment, and a democratized AI ecosystem. The upcoming Apart x Martian Mechanistic Router Interpretability Hackathon aims to explore and develop this approach further, inviting participants to contribute to creating a more aligned and specialized AI ecosystem.
