Announcing Honeycomb support for event ingestion with OTLP

AWS has announced enhancements for AWS Distro for OpenTelemetry, including new support from partners, while Honeycomb is introducing support for event ingestion using the OpenTelemetry Protocol (OTLP). This development allows AWS Distro OpenTelemetry Collector to send events directly to Honeycomb without needing additional exporters, reducing complexity and simplifying configuration. Users need only configure their OpenTelemetry collectors or SDKs with their Honeycomb API key and dataset name, eliminating the need for maintaining separate exporters. This capability is available to anyone using OpenTelemetry, not just those using AWS services, thanks to Honeycomb's support for OTLP event ingestion with gRPC and HTTP/2. The implementation was facilitated by a new AWS Application Load Balancer feature that supports gRPC workloads with end-to-end HTTP/2 support, accelerating the delivery of this feature. Honeycomb's new OTLP event ingestion support aims to simplify infrastructure configuration for users of OpenTelemetry.
