Reaffirming our commitment to open documentation
Blog post from Google Cloud
Google has reaffirmed its commitment to open documentation by ensuring that all developer documentation on developers.google.com is freely licensed, primarily under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 license for documentation and the Apache 2.0 license for code samples. This approach promotes the widespread adoption of Google APIs and allows developers to reuse code samples, ultimately benefiting the entire developer community. The initiative includes a review process to ensure all existing and future documentation is clearly marked with the appropriate license, with any exceptions explicitly labeled as "All rights reserved." This effort aims to facilitate innovation and the sharing of knowledge while supporting developers, authors, and translators in creating derivative works. Ashleigh Rentz, from the Developer Programs team, emphasizes the importance of this practice and the internal adjustments made to maintain transparency in licensing for future publications.
