Introducing the new Google Analytics Metadata API
Blog post from Google Cloud
Google introduced the Google Analytics Metadata API to streamline data discovery for developers using the Core Reporting API, which provides access to over 250 data points. This new API simplifies the process by listing all queryable dimensions and metrics, along with their attributes like descriptions, groupings, and deprecation status, thus allowing developers to automate updates in their applications. Aimed at improving efficiency, it saves time by enabling tools like Analytics Canvas to automatically refresh their query interfaces with the latest data releases. Additionally, Google announced a deprecation policy to enhance transparency, marking outdated data in the Metadata API and announcing changes in their changelogs. To facilitate adoption, Google offers comprehensive resources, including a Metadata API Reference guide and Developer guide, and engages with the developer community through forums and live shows.
