Clarifying the deprecation policy for Google APIs and services
Blog post from Google Cloud
Google is refining its approach to deprecation policies for its APIs and services to simplify the process for developers in understanding which features are covered by these policies. Previously, the label “Experimental” was used to denote features not protected by a deprecation policy, but this required developers to sift through documentation to identify such features. To address this, Google is now implementing an explicit list for each API or service that clearly outlines the features covered by the deprecation policy, such as those for Google Maps APIs. This initiative, spearheaded by APIs Product Manager Adam Feldman, aims to improve transparency and accessibility, ensuring developers can spend less time deciphering documentation and more time on coding. This update will be fully implemented in the coming weeks, with detailed information available in the terms of service for each API or service.
