AI Fest in Spain: Exploring the Potential of Artificial Intelligence in Careers, Communities, and Commerce

In July 2021, two Google Developer Groups (GDGs) in Spain organized AI Fest, a conference dedicated to exploring the transformative potential of artificial intelligence across various industries, which highlighted the need for such events in the region. Spearheaded by Irene Ruiz Pozo, the event aimed to provide a platform for students, academics, and professional developers to share knowledge about AI, fostering skill development and economic recovery post-pandemic. The conference, held at El Batel Auditorium in Cartagena, featured 55 local and international speakers and included sessions on AI's role in commerce, economics, and technology, attracting a significant online audience. Despite limitations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, AI Fest successfully generated interest in GDGs and Google Developer Student Clubs (GDSCs) across Spain, inspiring plans for future events and encouraging participation in technology fields, particularly for women. The organizers are optimistic about expanding their scope in upcoming events and hope to inspire similar initiatives globally, emphasizing the importance of community-driven technology exploration.
